How to Clean Comforters

How to clean comforters should be taken into consideration before you buy.  If you cannot clean it yourself, it may prove to be more expensive in the long run than the one that is a little pricier upfront.

How to Clean Comforters

Dry cleaning is a must if the tag that tells you how to clean comforters says to have it dry cleaned.  Some fabrics can not handle the water that comes along with washing it in a machine.  You sure don’t want to waste your whole investment in the comforter just by not taking the time to take it to the cleaners.  This is an expense that can add up if you plan to have it cleaned often and should be considered when making a purchase of a new comforter.

If the tag says that you can wash it, go ahead and put it in your washing machine on the suggested cycle and water temperature.  A down comforter that is washable requires the use of a detergent specially made for down. It is a special blended formula that will not leave a residue.  If your comforter does not fit into your machine with enough room for it to have the water circulate through it, you might consider taking it to the local laundry mat.  They will have machines capable of handling any load.

How to clean comforters on a weekly basis can be achieved without laundering or taking it to the cleaners.  A wet dryer sheet thrown into the dryer with your comforter will remove any foreign objects that are on the comforter such as dust and hair. It will also freshen the fabrics just as it does your laundry.

Remember that there are normally care instructions located on the tag that tells how to clean comforters similar to yours.  This is where you will find the contents of the materials used in the making of your comforter.  If there are no instructions, but the materials are listed, do a quick search on how to clean that certain fabric or filling material.

Make sure to look at the tag when making a new comforter purchase to ensure that you can clean it with your desired method.  A call to the cleaners to find out how much an average size comforter will be handy to know before pricing a comforter as well.  If you can’t afford the cleaning bill, you shouldn’t buy that type of comforter.
